Combining glamour, rock ‘n roll & a healthy organic lifestyle was not easy, but for ex model Jo Wood, it was a choice that now defines her as a pioneer & committed supporter of all things natural & organic.
Jo’s personal journey began after falling ill in 1989 & discovering that a switch to an all-organic diet improved her health dramatically. Fascinated by the subject, Jo gradually moved towards making everything in her life organic. She has two organic gardens, & everything in the Wood household is organic.
However, Jo still found it hard to find skin care products that were completely organic & yet also luxurious & sophisticated, so she decided to make them herself.
After years spent mixing her own oils for her own personal use, family & friends in what Jo now fondly refers to as her ‘home laboratory’, 2005 saw the launch of Jo Wood Organics, a sophisticated & decadent range of organic bath & body care products, cementing Jo’s dedication to a natural, organic & eco lifestyle. Her range is influenced by her passion for Africa; Jo’s mother is South African, & can trace family ancestors to the Zulu’s. The fragrances have been given Swahili and Xhosa names, Amka, Usiku, Tula & Langa. Jo visits Africa each year & has a Carbon Neutral Wood in Mozambique where trees are planted to offset carbon emissions. Jo is also a long-standing supporter of the Tusk Trust.
Jump to 2009 and Jo travelled to Bangladesh to support fair-trade fashion for The People Tree Foundation, opened The Vitality Show, judged the Observer Ethical Awards for the 2nd year running, did the catwalk for Vivienne Westwood, became a columnist for Vogue & Natural Health Magazine and is now dusting down her dancing shoes to make her debut on Strictly Come Dancing, Series 7.
